What anime, if any did you watch while growing up?
And how do they hold up now?
I watched B-Daman back when I was a kid & when I started looking back, I was like "Why did I like this again".
And then it really got started & I remembered why
For those who don't know B-Daman was a toy range that cam out just a little while after Beyblades got popular, as a way to try and challange it... With a Marble Blaster in which the name of the game is to shoot marbles going at high speed at your opponent to know their blaster out of their hands
So, its basically a Glorified BB Gun... You Know, for kids~
The anime is one of those really cheesy 80s ones, but it deceptively good
The Main character, Yamato is your generic limitless energy stomach for brains dufus common for these kinds of shows, aside from the fact he was raised by cats, but the supporting cast...
First is Grey, who despite being a good person is forced to work for the Villains, as they have his younger sister as their captive. Grey actually stuck in my mind as the coolest character from my Childhood, with his one handed blaster, western style and general attitude.
Then there's Bull... A scitzofrenic, who alternates between his calm side, who is the kind of guy who can fall asleep on the spot & is easy to get along with. Then there's his Brave side, who is downright evil, who battles his opponents in order to steal his foes blaster & add it to his collection. This part is also an ace mechanic for Bdaman. And last, but not least, is his Wild side... Where he grows Huge, spikey, Red hair, an terrifying presence and basically nigh indestructable. Seriously, he will break you!
And last for the main cast is possibly my favourite: Terry Mc.Scotty, an kid from Japan, who has tanned skin, is a hindu, a Highlander Ninja, the thickest scottish accent ever and the worst case of "Dude looks like a chick" of all time. And Terry's the Straight man to everyone else madness.
Then their are the Villains, the Shadow Allience. they always have a generally intimidating presence, but often come across a extremely generic sort, but then the final confrontation happens.... NIGHTMARE FUEL~
Throw in a soundtrack that combines of Rock & Western & that kick ass opening & this is one show I'm happy to say was part of my childhood~
